Red Heart Log Cabin

Hello my lovely readers!

While I was updating my blog (since I once again have neglected it for awhile) I noticed I was missing a post on the quilt I made for my mother-in-law!  I was so excited to share the pictures with all of you – I can’t believe I forgot about it! But, there it was – sitting in my drafts folder…

I gave this quilt to my MIL back in September for her birthday and she was thrilled!  This quilt was very special to me as well because the pattern was designed by my very own mother!  It is a variation on a log cabin pattern that features a heart in the middle.  My mom’s original design was sewn in pinks, browns, and greens.  For my MIL I knew the design needed to be done in red!

Since I made you wait so long for this post, I will just keep it short and sweet and just give you the photo shoot!

International Women’s Day Art Challenge

12784401_10208703510243306_244681284_n

Hello my lovely readers!

I am currently working on a hand embroidery pattern series called “Powerful Women Series.”  It will feature inspirational quotes by inspirational women.  It will be dedicated to all the beautiful, strong, intelligent female role models I have in my life!

It is quite a lot of fun to be designing these patterns and I thought maybe other artists, makers, and crafters would want to join me in creating some awesome works!

So, in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2016 I thought it would be fun to get everyone together for a fun design challenge! I have chosen a quote that I will be designing an embroidery pattern for and I would love if other artists would join me in designing their own interpretation of the quote using their own chosen medium! See below for all the details and get designing!

International Women’s Day Challenge 2016

Using the following quote as inspiration, design a piece of art using whatever medium you choose.

“Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail.  Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.”  – Oprah

That is it! Those are the only rules and anyone can join the challenge!  Just make sure to post a picture of the final results  on Facebook or Instagram using hashtag  #internationalwomensday2016! Beginning on March 8, 2016 and ending April 8, 2016 – Let’s fill the internet with this positive quote for a whole month!  Tag #eliseandemerald as well so I can see your amazing finished product!

I hope  you will join me in this challenge and I can’t WAIT to see what you come up with!

If you want to stay in touch and get updates on my Powerful Women Embroidery Series, or any of my other current projects, follow me on Instagram or find me on Facebook!

Thanks for visiting!

Green Bay – No Way!

Quack Quack Duck Duck 1

I have another baby shower to go to today!  This one is a surprise and I am eager to see how that goes over… 🙂

I make quite a few baby quilts to keep on hand. 1. I am at the age where everyone I know is having babies. 2. They are quick and easy to make. 3. You can experiment with patterns on a small scale without having to commit to a giant full size quilt. 4. They use less fabric so they are cheaper and I seem to find a lot of them that can be made with scraps and fabric I already have on hand.

This particular quilt I made a year or so ago.  The Daddy-To-Be is a big fan of the Green Bay Packers, but since our household is a Pittsburgh Steelers household, I couldn’t bring myself to make a quilt any more green and gold than this. I love this quilt because it has super soft minky on the top!  It also has really cute little ducks!

I didn’t use a pattern, but it is a variation of a Split Rail Fence pattern.  The quilting is only on the cotton pieces, so the minky stays soft and supple, using an all over swirls and curls method.  I quilted it myself on my Bernina Record and I can’t wait to give it to the Mommy-To-Be!  Hopefully the little Packer Fan will consider rooting for a *ahem* better team…
